Chicago
Chicago Sexiest Hair Salons

Image
Maxine Salon

www.maxinesalon.com

712 N. Rush St.
312.751.1511

This is a super, sexy little salon to come and feel naughty in. It's the 'flagship L'Oreal Professionel Haircolor Center' of Chicago, so the recommendations don't come much better. There are giant, technicolor prints of some of the innovative styles they can do, dotted about the salon, and the decor is chrome-industrial chic, with shiny, metallic walls, frosted glass shelving, and some very comfortable, black leather chairs. The stylists are just magnificent, without exception, and you can also get one of the city's best Brazilian waxes here, as well as superior make-up and facial services. It's not outrageously expensive, either, as you'd expect a place like this to be. Cuts are between $65-$120, so there's a stylist for all budgets.

Mon Ami Coiffeur

45 E. Oak St.
312.944.3662

This Gold Coast salon has French elegance oozing out of every brick. It used to be called Freenation Beauty, but is now run by Joel Mallett of the Mon Ami chain. There's a real boudoir feel about the place as you go up the stairs from the street, thanks to the velvet wallpaper. The salon itself, though, is light, bright and very contemporary. The name of the salon means 'my friend, the hairdresser', so this tells you how friendly they are here. Joel has styled for lots of celebs, including Hillary Clinton, Faye Dunaway and Stephanie March, plus he regularly features in all the top hair magazines. Great credentials for any salon!

Red 7 Salon

210 W. Kinzie St., 2nd Floor
847.866.7337

Yep, this is a big, bold and beautiful salon, with lovely red and blue feature walls, pure white high ceilings and wooden floors. It's the height of Chicago funkiness, so expect adventurous stylists and a real air of fun in here. There's some great original art on the walls, too (not sure if it's for sale or not...), so being surrounded by such creativity is bound to inspire not just the stylists, but also yourself. Don't be surprised if you find yourself deciding to go for something completely different for that which you went in for - this place can bring out your naughty side! Book in with the master stylist, David, and you'll get a cut that's out of this world (you'll need to save up, though...). They have a second salon, in Evanston, too, if coming into the CBD is too much of a hassle.

Sine Qua Non - Lakeview Salon

www.sinequanonsalons.com
3417 N Lincoln
773.404.8789

There are four Sine Qua Non salons in the Chicago area. This one at Lakeview is just beautiful, and the smart interior is matched by savvy stylists who are very easy to talk to, and immediately 'get' what you're trying to do with your look. Inside, it's like a French boudoir, with elegant, pink/red/white patterned walls, soft red flooring and great big mirrors. You feel like you're being prepared for some big show at the Moulin Rouge, such is the theater of the place. They do great color here, especially and, if you're on a budget, but are quite laid back about your hair, then try booking in on a Monday, when the salon does 'color education' for their stylists, and your visit will be free.

Vanité Salon

www.vanitebeauty.com

3161 N Halsted
773.661.9135

This minimalist salon delivers edgy and sexy cuts, and is a favorite with anyone who loves Paul Mitchell products. They really do make a fuss of you here, and it's totally sincere, so take the time to explain in detail what you want from the experience - they really will listen. The salon only opened in Summer 2012, and they do regular promotions to get the word out there, so take advantage while the place is still a Chicago secret. There are discounts not just on cuts, but also on the product range.

Michael & Michael Salon

www.michaelandmichael.com

365 W. Chicago Ave.
312.951.0779

This modern, boutique salon offers cutting edge hair technology and highly trained stylists who pride themselves on being at the forefront of contemporary hair styling. It's a truly beautiful salon, and amazing that they keep it so spotless. It's wall-to-wall whiteness, with plenty of mirrors, and large, individual hair stations, with plenty of space in between, so you never feel you're being crowded in. The W Chicago Avenue location adds to the hip-ness of this place, and if you're lucky you can even get to park right outside. The prices are at the higher end of Chicago hair salons, but you really do get what you pay for. Big plus points include the amazing Liscio hair straightening system, and the intensive scalp treatments.

George The Salon

www.georgethesalon.com

23 West Hubbard St.
312.923.9444

This salon takes very good care of the three main Cs of the hair industry - cut, color and conditioning. It's a small functional salon, with fashionable, exposed brick walls, clean lines and comfortable chairs. The waiting area is a nice long bench full of cushions, so watch you don't get too comfy. It's nice and intimate here, so I like it for that very reason - you never feel like you're just another customer, you really do get great customer service. What's also great about this salon, is their reward scheme. Every time you go, you'll accumulate points, which you can then redeem in the form of gift certificates, products, or your next haircut. And every time you refer a friend here, you'll get a reward, too. A great idea.

Sine Qua Non - West Town Salon

www.sinequanonsalons.com

2038 W Chicago
773.252.4700

The West Town franchise of this respected chain is the baby of the bunch, and was awarded the 'Salon of Distinction' award by Salon Today in July 2012. It's an intimate place, with some very quirky decor, a mix of modern and vintage styles, incorporating dark wood, chrome, bold florals and some rustic elements thrown in for good measure. Once a month, usually the last Sundays and Mondays, they do a Blowout Lab, for their stylists to train in new blowdry methods. If you book in for one of these sessions, you won't pay anything. Otherwise, prices are very reasonable anyway, and you know you'll get the latest trends because their stylists are obsessed with being one step ahead of the competition. A great, sassy little salon, ideal for the single girl.

Sine Qua Non - Anderson Salon

www.sinequanonsalons.com

5057 N Clark
773.649.0101

As with all Sine Qua Non salons, this one has been designed by Bruce Fox. It's a very chic place, sweeping, clean walls, pale pine furnishings, and the salon's signature black barber chairs. It's the smallest of the four in the Sine Qua Non family, but that's the only thing small about it. All the stylists are enthusiastic and keen to please, so if anything, you're more likely to get the personal touch here than other, larger salons, because there's nowhere for anybody to hide. Their Brazilian keratin treatment is worth its weight in gold, and I also love their creative hair painting, which is perfect when you want to really jazz things up for a night on the town. They also offer Bumble & Bumble, and Aveda treatments.

Studio 110 Salon

www.studio110salon.com

110 E. Delaware Place #1
312.337.6411

This very fashionable salon on E. Delaware Place featured in the September 2012 edition of Vogue, so it's no longer a sassy little secret to keep to yourself. It's a minimalist urban space, with trendy gray chairs, brown floors, and bit of an industrial feel, if you look up at the very high ceiling. But by adding in some refurbed antique mirrors, shiny chaises and and some very interesting, customized benches, they've managed to give it a gallery look, which bodes well for the creativity of the stylists themselves. They love to create their own little masterpieces here, so don't be afraid to let them loose on your hair. You won't be disappointed. Single girls should want to stand out from the crowd, so these guys will help you discover just how wide the boundaries of your comfort zone, actually are.
